Prof. Dr. Xiao-Hua Qin

Area of Research

Description of Research Interest

The Qin group focuses on developing novel biomaterials for tissue biomanufacturing and regenerative medicine. His scientific contributions have been recognized with several awards, including a European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant. His team at ETH Zurich constructs tissue-mimicking 3D microenvironments in vitro to address fundamental questions in bone physiology and pathology, with the long-term goal of building miniature bone organoid models for disease modeling and drug discovery. Recently, Dr. Qin received a four-year SNSF National Research Program (NRP) 79  “Advancing 3R” grant to develop a human organoid-on-chip platform aimed at replacing animal experiments in rare bone disease research, in line with the principles of the 3Rs (Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement).
