Description of Research Interest

Electrophysiology of the lower urinary tract: We are refining electrophysiological tools for implementation in the lower urinary tract assessment in daily clinical practice.

Neuroimaging: We are working on the standardisation of neuroimaging research methods / tools for the Neuro-Urology field.

Neuromodulation: We are assessing the effect of transcutaneous tibial nerve stimulation (TTNS) a) for treating lower urinary tract dysfunction due to an underlying neurological disorder and b) for preventing detrusor overactivity jeopardizing the upper urinary tract in patients with acute spinal cord injury.


Urinary tract infections: We are investigating bacteriophages for treating urinary tract infections and aim to reestablish a healthy microbiome by human-derived urinary microbiota transplantation to achieve long term sustainable therapeutic effects.

Clinical assessment and management: We consistently evaluate and challenge our daily clinical assessment and management strategies to improve quality of life and to protect the upper urinary tract of our patients. 

Animal and translational research: We are using a translational animal model to urodynamically and electrophysiologically investigate the impact of different neurological disorders on lower urinary tract function and the corresponding neuronal control.
