Area of Research
Description of Research Interest
Our group is interested in embryonic renal development and disease. Which molecular and structural events lead to the formation of a functioning kidney? How these events are disrupted in hereditary renal diseases, in particular cystic kidney diseases is a major focus of our work.
Special Expertise
We use two model organisms, Xenopus tropicalis and Xenopus laevis, which we use to model genetic diseases using CRISPR-Cas genome editing, and direct reprogramming of fibroblasts to renal tubular epithelial cells (iRECs). Thus, we have access to a wide range of methods in the fields of developmental biology, disease modelling in aquatic organisms and generating novel in vitro models for tubulopathies.
