Area of Research
Description of Research Interest
Our research is focused on the impact of the microbiome in the pathogenesis of intestinal diseases and cancer as well as to identify novel therapeutic approaches in cancer and inflammatory bowel disease. By studying biosamples from patients with infalmmatory bowel disease, colorectal cancer and melanoma as lead indications as well as by applying suitable mouse models, we aim to further elucidate the molecular impact of the microbiome on human immunology and physiology. Our key objectives are to unravel the effect of specific bacteria on host immunity on a single cell level to elucidate the therapeutic potential of such bacteria. By translating those findings into the clinical setting, we will directly improve patient care.
