Description of Research Interest

My group carries out research at the intersection of machine learning and medicine with the ultimate goal of improving diagnosis and treatment outcome to the benefit of the care and wellbeing of patients. Our research deals with the advancement of machine learning models and methodologies to address the specific challenges of the medical domain. Specifically, we work in the areas of multimodal data integration, structure detection, and trustworthy (or transparent) models.

  • Multimodal data integration, structure detection, longitudinal data analysis, representation learning and trustworthy (or transparent) models.
  • Analysis of clinical data such as medical images and ultrasound videos, electronic health records, data from wearable devices, and lab test data, among others.
  • Development and deployment of computational and statistical tools that are necessary to enable personalized medical treatment of patients.
  • Development, implementation, and dissemination of decision support tools that address relevant clinical problems, such as early neonatal jaundice detection, or pediatric appendicitis.
