Description of Research Interest

My research focus is on cardiovascular aging and age-related cardiovascular disease with particular emphasis on vascular dysfunction, arterial thrombosis and stroke. One of the working hypothesis of our research team, is that the same pathways mediating aging are also intrinsically involved in the pathophysiology of age-related cardiovascular disease with inflammation playing a crucial role. In our department we also have other research groups focusing on cardiovascular risk prediction, heart failure, platelet biology, microbiome, atherosclerosis, vascular function, endothelium, adipose tissue, amyloidosis and more. Special Expertise

In vivo and in vitro models of vascular aging, stroke and arterial thrombosis with a focus on studying pathways mediating inflammation and free radicals. We also perform translational research in several clinical cohorts to validate our preclinical findings.
