Area of Research

Description of Research Interest

=10.0ptWe pursue an integrated translational, clinical, and experimental research program aimed at improving the understanding and treatment of immune-mediated and cholestatic liver diseases. Our work focuses on the molecular and immunological mechanisms that drive conditions such as cholangiopathies, with particular emphasis on the biology and management of key symptoms including fatigue and pruritus.

A major research area is the investigation of cholestasis-associated inflammation, bile acid dysregulation, and fibrogenesis, and how these processes contribute to the development and progression of chronic liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). By integrating mechanistic studies, biomarker discovery, and clinical cohorts, we aim to identify therapeutic targets and refine diagnostic strategies.

We evaluate emerging treatments, including interventions that modulate itch pathways, bile acid transport, or immune activation. Our research philosophy emphasizes a strong bench-to-bedside approach that connects molecular insights with patient-centered clinical studies.

In parallel, we contribute to shaping clinical practice through participation in international guideline development, editorial work, and leadership roles in professional societies. Through these collaborative efforts, we aim to advance scientific understanding, improve patient outcomes, and support innovation in hepatology
